Elisabeth Caren

Elisabeth Caren is an editorial, advertising and fine art photographer based in Los Angeles and Paris. Elisabeth incorporates her lifelong passion for the dramatic arts into her visual art practice, making cinematic narratives and theatrical portraits in addition to her advertising commissions. 

Elisabeth’s commercial and editorial clients include American Airlines, Atlantic Records, Bust Magazine, CBS, Delta Sky Magazine, Emmy, InStyle, Lionsgate Entertainment, Los Angeles Magazine, MTV, NBC, People, PETA, Sony Pictures Television, The New York Times, Variety and The Wrap. She has been commissioned to create portraits of many of the world’s most renowned celebrities. 

In 2018, Elisabeth won The International Photography Awards 3rd Place Best Editorial Portrait, Personality and 3rd Place for best Celebrity Portrait in the APA National Awards. In 2017, she won 1st place in the International Photography Awards self portrait category, was a PDN’s Faces Portrait Contest winner in the celebrity category and a winner of the APA National Awards in the personal work category. She was a finalist for the 2017 Communication Arts Photography Awards and The LA Press Club Awards. Elisabeth has won several APA Off The Clock contests, PDN’s Faces 2014, and has been recognized with over 50 multiple honorable mention acknowledgments by the 2012-2017 IPA Awards competitions. 

Elisabeth started her career as a unit stills photographer on set for film and television as well as entertainment reportage for the Associated Press, all the while making commissioned portraits and creating personal work. She is a current member of the International Cinematographers Guild. Elisabeth is also a board member of the Los Angeles branch of APA, American Photographic Artists. 

Elisabeth earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre and Film Studies magna cum laude from Boston University College of Fine Arts. Prior to photography, Elisabeth’s first career was in the entertainment industry working in film development for acclaimed filmmakers Barry Sonnenfeld, David Friendly and Kathryn Bigelow. Her belief in the significance of image paved the way to a transition into entertainment publicity and marketing where she worked at a film studio and at agencies with award winning filmmakers and iconic global brands. Elisabeth’s ten years of experience in the entertainment industry and particularly in public relations and marketing, has given her tremendous insight into her clients’ photographic needs now. 

Elisabeth’s fine art work has been exhibited at Photo Basel, Switzerland and multiple shows in London, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Francisco, South Hampton and Toronto. She was on the short list for the Young Masters Art Prize and subsequently featured in its exhibition tour 2015-2017. Elisabeth was a finalist in the 2015 and 2018 LA Photo Focus contest exhibitions. In 2017 her film noir inspired series “Double Identity” was exhibited at Art New York in the Special Projects Selection, was featured on the program cover of Art Palm Springs and selected for MOPLA (Month of Photography Los Angeles) Standard Vision Showcase, displayed on a digital billboard in downtown Los Angeles.
